The Author

Long before writing horror, Jason Betzing was a fan. He’s loved horror since being terrified by Jaws as a small child. Being an eighties kid, he grew up watching the slashers, with Freddy being his favorite; the ability to get into dreams made him more terrifying. He remembers catching Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein one Saturday afternoon and has loved the Universal Monsters since then.

While his love of horror began with film, he quickly found reading horror to be even more fun. In junior high, he quickly grew bored with “age appropriate” scary stories and started reading horror by authors such as King, Koontz, and Straub.
In many ways, Jason Betzing is defined by his wanderlust and creative nature. He chose a sailor’s life with the Coast Guard at age 19. Of his 20 year career, he spent 11 of them on sea duty exploring the Caribbean Islands, French West Indies, South and Middle Americas. Besides writing, he has a variety of passions such as photography, fine art, and cooking.

In 2018, he and his wife of 32 years sold it all and hit the road full-time in an RV. During that time, Jason wrote and photographed for various travel and lifestyle magazines with several published covers. In 2024, Jason published his first work, All Out of Seasons, a photo-poetry book containing over thirty years of poetry and incorporating his photography. After six years of RV life, they settled down in Michigan’s thumb. They don’t have any pets, but hope to purchase and name a robot vacuum in the near future.
